At a time when travellers are looking for more direction, of culture and’authenticity, Peru is one of the most complete destinations in Latin America.

But to sell it, you need to understand it. Its millennia-long history, the diversity of its territories, the complexity of its communities and the depth of its heritage demand an expert approach.

We met with Leticia González Mantilla, a trained archaeologist, former Managing Director of PromPerú and founder of South American Destination, We'll be having an unfiltered discussion about Peru today, its tourism challenges and the added value of a committed DMC.

🎙 Interview with Leticia González Mantilla

An expert's view of Peru, its cultural depth and the challenges facing travel agencies

Pérou – Patrimoine culturel

«Peru is more than just an icon».»

CSTPRO : Peru is often associated with Machu Picchu. Is this a hindrance or an opportunity for travel agencies?

Leticia González : This is both a strength and a limitation. Machu Picchu is an exceptional gateway, but Peru is above all a continuous civilisation.

Long before the Incas, cultures such as the Moche, Lambayeque, Chimú and Chachapoya structured the territory, leaving behind their knowledge, architecture and vision of the world.

CSTPRO : In practical terms, what does Peru offer today's traveller, beyond the dream?

Leticia González : Peru fully meets today's expectations: understanding the world, cultural immersion, diversity of landscapes and human encounters.

It's a destination with meaning. Travellers don't just consume places, they learn, they exchange and they return transformed.

CSTPRO : So what is the key role of a DMC in selling Peru?

Leticia González : Peru can't be improvised. It's a complex, culturally dense destination that requires real expertise on the ground.

The role of a DMC is to ensure the coherence of the trip, the quality of the people involved, respect for local communities and operational safety, while helping agencies to offer a differentiating and sustainable product.

Why Peru meets the expectations of today's travellers

  • A rare geographical diversity Pacific coast, Andes, Amazonia
  • A deep cultural heritage and intelligible to the end customer
  • A world-renowned gastronomy
  • A strong human and community dimension
  • An ideal destination for premium made-to-measure

Peru is a destination that transforms travellers. They learn, they understand, they get involved.
